An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on, experienced Financial Controller to join a well-established organisation in Wellingborough, operating across multiple entities. Working closely with the CFO, you’ll lead a loyal, dedicated finance team and play a key role in driving continuous improvement across systems, reporting, and business processes. You’ll bring commercial awareness and offer thoughtful insight and challenge across the business, helping to shape informed decisions and support sustainable growth. Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the CFO and working closely with the CEO, your role will be both strategic and hands-on, with key duties including:
- Partnering with business unit leaders to ensure accurate financial reporting, meaningful profitability analysis, cash flow management, variance reviews, and clear KPI reporting.
- Championing a strong commercial mindset across the wider organisation, encouraging alignment between financial goals and operational delivery.
- Collaborating with senior management to shape business strategy, evaluate investment opportunities, and identify areas for process improvement and efficiency.
- Supporting commercial contracts and tender processes, ensuring robust evaluation, accurate returns, and effective margin control.
- Working alongside the delivery team to implement a new finance system, ensuring integration with existing systems across business units.
- Leading the annual budgeting cycle and rolling forecast process, providing clarity, structure, and insightful analysis.
- Mentoring and supporting the development of the finance team, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and collaboration.
- Contributing to business-wide projects and undertaking detailed financial and commercial analysis as required.
The Candidate
We’re seeking a commercially astute, technically strong Financial Controller who brings a balance of strategic insight, operational excellence, and team leadership. You’ll have:
- Proven experience leading a finance function of similar scale (circa 6), with the ability to manage, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to advise, influence, and challenge across all levels of the business.
- A sound technical foundation with a keen eye for detail, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance in all areas of reporting and financial control.
- A naturally inquisitive mindset, someone who can identify risks, spot opportunities for improvement, and see beyond the numbers.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft products (Excel, PowerPoint), and confident working with systems like MS Dynamics, and other data platforms.
- The ability to navigate complexity, manage multiple internal systems and external relationships, and play a key role in shaping business performance.
- A genuine passion for developing people, strengthening processes, and contributing to informed, strategic decision-making.
