Overview

Are you a technically strong Financial Controller who enjoys the detail of financial accounting and group consolidations, but would welcome the opportunity to become more involved in the commercial side of a growing business?

At Debbie Burbage Recruitment, we are delighted to be working exclusively with an ambitious international group as they enter an exciting period of growth, with the business expected to approximately double in size over the next 12 months.

This is an opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in financial control, financial accounting, and consolidations, but who wants to do more than simply produce the numbers.

Working closely with a highly experienced and commercially minded CFO, you will have the opportunity to develop your broader business understanding, contribute to strategic and commercial discussions and play an important part in shaping the finance function as the group expands.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will take ownership of group financial reporting, consolidations and financial controls, ensuring the business has accurate, meaningful financial information on which to make decisions.

While technical accounting and consolidation responsibilities are fundamental to the role, you will also have the opportunity to get involved in funding, acquisitions, business planning and forecasting (including modelling), and wider commercial projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including multi-entity and multi-currency group consolidations.
  • Preparing consolidated financial statements, UK and Irish statutory accounts and management reporting across the group, working with overseas teams and advisers where appropriate.
  • Developing and strengthening financial controls, accounting policies and reporting processes to support continued growth.
  • Producing board and investor reporting, providing meaningful commentary and insight into financial performance.
  • Managing group cash flow forecasting, including intercompany funding and transactions across multiple currencies.
  • Maintaining and developing complex Excel financial models to support forecasting, reporting and commercial decision-making.
  • Working closely with the CFO, the Commercial Director and the CEO on funding rounds, investor due diligence, acquisitions and group restructuring projects.
  • Supporting the financial management and compliance requirements of international grant and R&D funding programmes.
  • Overseeing intercompany accounting arrangements, reconciliations and transfer pricing documentation.
  • Building strong working relationships with finance teams across the international group, ensuring consistency and accuracy of reporting.
  • Helping to shape and develop the group finance function, including improving systems, processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Supporting and developing an experienced accountant, with the opportunity to help build the wider finance team as the business grows.

The Candidate

You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a strong technical accounting background and proven, hands-on experience of preparing group consolidations across multiple entities and currencies.

Your experience may have been gained within a group finance function or in practice. What matters is that you understand the detail behind the numbers, have personally prepared consolidations and are confident taking ownership of financial reporting and control.

Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling experience are essential, alongside a solid understanding of statutory accounting and management reporting.

We are particularly interested in speaking with people who enjoy the technical side of accounting but are equally curious about the wider business. You may have reached a point in your career where you would welcome greater exposure to commercial discussions, funding decisions and the strategic direction of an organisation.

You will be someone who enjoys taking responsibility, is comfortable working hands-on and can bring structure and clarity to a business that is evolving. You won’t expect everything to be in place already, but will enjoy being part of creating the processes and controls needed for the future.

You will also be a confident communicator who can build positive relationships with colleagues across different countries and cultures and explain financial information clearly to people outside finance.

Experience of international reporting, investor-backed businesses, acquisitions or developing finance systems would be advantageous, although we certainly wouldn’t expect you to have experience in every area.

Remuneration

  • £competitive per annum depending on experience
  • Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week – Hybrid working after probationary period
  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
  • 10% STIP, pension, death in service x3 and parking
