Overview

Debbie Burbage Recruitment is delighted to be working exclusively with our valued Daventry-based client to recruit a Financial Controller. This is a newly created and pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to shape and lead the finance function while working closely with the Managing Director.

This opportunity has arisen as part of a planned transition, with a long-standing team member retiring, creating the perfect time for someone new to step in, bring a fresh perspective and make the role their own.


The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial management and supporting the wider business with clear, insightful financial information. You will also lead and develop a small team of two, creating a positive and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Taking full responsibility for the day to day running of the finance function
  • Preparing and delivering monthly management accounts with clear commentary
  • Leading budgeting and forecasting processes to support business planning
  • Providing financial insight and guidance to the Managing Director to support decision making
  • Managing cashflow, financial planning and reporting
  • Overseeing statutory reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Managing tax matters, including corporation tax and liaising with external advisors where required
  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns and ensuring ongoing compliance
  • Ensuring strong financial controls, processes and compliance are in place
  • Overseeing year end processes and liaising with external accountants and auditors
  • Leading, supporting and developing two direct reports
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and efficiencies

The Candidate

You will be an experienced finance professional who is confident operating at a senior level and enjoys working closely with stakeholders across the business. You will bring strong technical knowledge alongside a commercial mindset, with the ability to translate financial information into clear and meaningful insight.

You may be qualified or qualified by experience, with a proven track record of managing a finance function and leading or mentoring others. Just as importantly, you will be approachable, hands-on and someone who takes pride in building strong relationships and adding value beyond the numbers.


Remuneration 

  • £60,000 – £65,000 depending on experience
  • 37.5 hours per week, flexible start and finish times – Office-based
  • 30 days, including statutory bank holidays + birthday day off
