Overview

We’re delighted to be supporting exclusively our client in Northampton with the appointment of a CFO. This is a key role, working hand in hand with the CEO in a successful, multi-site business that has exciting plans for the future. For the right person, there is a real opportunity to progress further within the organisation.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to sit at board level, it needs someone hands-on, adaptable, and happy to get involved in the detail as well as the bigger picture. Our client is an owner-managed SME, so flexibility and the ability to juggle different priorities are essential. It’s a varied and interesting role where your commercial input will make a real difference.

The Role

  • Working closely with the CEO to help shape and deliver the business strategy.
  • Taking ownership of the finances across multiple sites, ensuring accurate reporting, strong controls and meaningful analysis.
  • Managing cashflow, budgets, forecasts and profitability reviews.
  • Offering commercial challenge and insight to support decision-making and growth.
  • Getting involved in projects, systems and processes to drive improvement and efficiency.
  • Leading and developing the finance team, encouraging a culture of collaboration and accountability.

The Candidate

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical strength and commercial awareness, but also the right attitude to thrive in an SME environment. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with proven experience at a senior level. You’ll be hands-on and adaptable, comfortable rolling up your sleeves when needed, yet confident operating at board level. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you’ll need to build relationships, influence, and provide constructive challenge across the business. Above all, we want someone who will embrace the variety, see the bigger picture, and is motivated by the opportunity to grow with the organisation. Key qualities include:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with senior finance leadership experience
  • Previous experience in an owner-managed or SME environment
  • Hands-on and adaptable, with a flexible approach
  • Commercially focused with strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Comfortable working across both strategic and operational priorities
  • Ambition to develop further as the business grows

Remuneration

  • Salary £100,000 – £120,000 pa depending on experience
  • Bonus, pension
  • Office-based, ideally, some hybrid working may be possible
  • 33 days holiday, including Bank Holidays
